Mother's Day

mother's day

It’s nearly time for one of our favourite days of the year (not that I am biased as a mum or anything, cough cough), and we know due to current changes and circumstances money may be a little tight (I’m also here right with you) BUT there are still ways you can make the day as special and enjoy it all the same.

Days like this are all about the people around you, although a hot cup of tea is pretty darn good too, so here’s a few ideas for celebrating being an incredibly mother WITHOUT breaking the bank:

1. Breakfast in bed

The classic. The OG. The one thing that you never quite get round to once you’re name becomes MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM. Toast & jam, hot coffee and a cuddle are some of life’s most forgotten about luxuries, and if it isn’t quite at the point where the little ones can spread butter yet then why not set everything up the night before on a tray (pastries, juice, EVEN a hot flask of tea) and bring it up when you wake? No faff. An extra bit of duvet time & probably CBeebies, but we can’t have everything can we?

Bubbles + a good bath

It’s very obvious that as mums we often promise ourselves that we’ll get round to catching up on our favourite Netflix series or another chapter of a good book, however it’ll realistically be 2070 before finally push ourselves to do so. Carve out some time today to ask your other half for an hour of peace. Run a hot bath, fill it with a serious number of bubbles, turn the lights off and turn the iPad on. Simple, but ever so effective.

Hobbies + fresh air

One of the positives of ’saving the pennies’ is that there are a huge number of activities available that are free OR in the comfort of our own homes. So, this Mother’s Day, why not take the time to do something you adore? Something that isn’t washing, or mopping, or wiping bums? Whether you want to get moving, bake, or take a sunny walk to the park take the time to do something that sets that soul on fire!

Maybe just do nothing at all

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, tapped out or just in need of a well-deserved sofa nap well, maybe Mother’s Day is exactly the day for that. Pat yourself on the back and in those moments where you don’t feel like you’ve got it in you to be positive, take a second to breathe, slow down, and remind yourself what it took to get here.

Leave the mess, order yourself your favourite takeaway, and however you like to relax best, be kind to yourself and do so this Mother’s Day. You have absolutely earned it.
